One of Clemson’s top two quarterback targets has set his commitment date.

Calhoun (Ga.) High School four-star Trace Hawkins will announce his commitment this Thursday, July 30, according to Rivals.

Along with Clemson, his other finalists are Duke, LSU, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 20 quarterback in the 2028 class and the No. 295 overall prospect nationally.

Hawkins made his first visit to Clemson last fall for the Duke game. He then visited for the spring game, as well as the Spring Elite Day before returning the first week in June to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

About three weeks later, Hawkins became one of the first two quarterbacks in the 2028 class to pick up an offer from the Tigers.

“It felt great, honestly,” Hawkins recently told TCI. “It was just a blessing. Making it even better, coach Swinney called me. That means that they truly want this to work. It was just great.”

Hawkins picked up his offer from LSU just before going public with his offer from Clemson, and he is slated to visit Baton Rouge for the 2026 season opener between LSU and Clemson on Sept. 5.

As a sophomore in 2025, Hawkins threw for 2,442 yards and 24 touchdowns with just three interceptions, while also rushing for 153 yards and three more scores on 31 carries.

As he navigates the recruiting process, Hawkins is taking more of an old-school approach. He is looking for a strong culture and a coaching staff he can fully trust.

“Just looking for the relationships,” he told TCI. “Not just where I feel like home, but also my family. It’s not just going to be me. My family will be coming, too. I want my family to be close to the people I am there with. And also the coaches.”
