The Clemson basketball team won its first game in Italy on Wednesday due to a technicality.

The Tigers earned a 40-35 win over BC Silute at the Stella Azzurra Sport Complex. The game was called with 8:23 left in the final period. According to the broadcast on 105.5 FM The Roar, who was broadcasting the game live from Rome, Italy, officials called the game due to too many sweat spots on the court.

During the broadcast, Clemson head coach Brad Brownell commented that the arena they were playing in was extremely humid and players on both teams were sweating at an extreme level which was making the conditions difficult to play in regards to player safety. Brownell was providing color commentary on the broadcast, as he allowed his assistant coaches to coach the game.

During one part of the broadcast in the second half, Brownell warned his players about of the wet spots on the floor. Because it was an exhibition game, Clemson was awarded the victory.

The Tigers were led by Notre Dame transfer Cole Certa who finished with 10 points. Playing against one of his home teams, Liutauras Lelevicius of Lithuania finished with nine points, while Dallas Thomas added seven and Chase Thompson scored six. 

David Fuchs, Blake Davidson and Trent Steinour all found the scoring column for the Tigers. Thompson led Clemson with eight rebounds, while Thomas and Davidson each added five.

Clemson played without Zac Foster, Ace Buckner, Carter Welling and Dylan Faulkner who are all out due to injury.

Clemson’s next game will be against Pro Camp on Saturday in Florence, Italy. Tipoff is set for 12:30 p.m., EST.
