Horrible news out of the NFL involving a former Clemson Football player.

Bryan Bresee, who plays for the New Orleans Saints, suffered a torn ACL, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday. Though Bresee still has a few more tests to determine the severity of the injury, Rapoport reports that the season is likely done for the former Clemson defensive tackle.

Bresee was expected to be one of the major pieces on the Saints’ defense this year.

This is not the first time Bresee has suffered a major injury to his knee. He tore his ACL against NC State on September 25, 2021, which forced him to miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

Now in his fourth season in the NFL, Bresee was selected by the Saints at No. 29 overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 86 total tackles in 49 career games in the NFL, including 14.5 sacks. Overall, he has 19 tackles for loss.

Bresee came to Clemson as the former No. 1 recruit in the country. He burst onto the scene as a Freshman All-American in 2020 and became the second ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in Clemson history, joining Dexter Lawrence (2016).

The defensive tackle was credited with 64 career tackles (15.0 for loss), nine sacks, four pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and a safety in 915 snaps from scrimmage over 26 games (21 starts).
