Former Clemson star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins appears headed for a coaching role with this ACC team.

Hopkins is “currently expected” to join the Georgia Tech coaching staff as an offensive assistant, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer.

Per the report, the five-time Pro Bowler has been in Atlanta this week visiting with the Yellow Jackets and shares a “longstanding relationship” with Georgia Tech offensive coordinator George Godsey, who previously served as Hopkins’ coach in the NFL with the Houston Texans (2014-16) and Baltimore Ravens (2025).

Hopkins, who hasn’t yet officially announced his retirement from the NFL, spent the opening days of training camp with the New England Patriots as a trial run to explore a post-playing coaching path. He had reached out to shadow the staff, and during his short time with New England, he wore coaching gear, assisted New England’s offensive coaches and met with the personnel department.

“It was a great experience,” Vrabel told the media during his July 30 press conference. “Hop’s not here, but it was a great experience for all of us. That’s what we try to do when you have some of these unique situations where a player or former player or whatever it may be wants to come in and help and learn, and they love football, so I think it was good for everybody.”

Over his 13-year NFL career, the 34-year-old Hopkins has amassed 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards and 85 touchdowns over 195 games during his career with the Texans, Cardinals, Titans, Chiefs and Ravens since being selected by Houston in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft (No. 27 overall pick).

During his Clemson career from 2010-12, Hopkins had 206 receptions for 3,020 yards and 27 touchdowns over 39 games (32 starts). He exited Clemson ranking first in school history in receiving yards, first in receiving touchdowns, first in 100-yard receiving games (12), and second in receptions.

Clemson is scheduled to host Georgia Tech this season at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 14.
