A former Clemson standout was part of a trade ahead of Major League Baseball’s Aug. 3 trade deadline.

On July 31, former Clemson infielder Billy Amick was officially traded from the Minnesota Twins to the New York Mets.

Amick, a third baseman, along with shortstop Bruin Agbayani, went from the Twins to the Mets in exchange for lefthanded pitcher A.J. Minter.

The Twins used their second-round pick (60th overall) in the 2024 MLB Draft on Amick, who played his final college season with national champion Tennessee, after transferring out of Clemson following the 2023 season.

Amick was ranked No. 32 overall on MLB.com’s Top 250 Draft Prospects List heading into the 2024 draft.

Amick has spent the entire 2026 season at Double-A, and at the time of the trade, he was slashing .217/.338/.482 with 23 homers, 72 RBI, 60 runs scored, two stolen bases and a 50-to-108 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 379 plate appearances across 86 games.

For his minor league career, over three seasons from 2024-26, the 23-year-old has slashed .251/.368/.463 with 30 homers, 112 RBI, 111 runs scored, five stolen bases and a 95-to-193 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 722 plate appearances over 163 contests.

Amick saw limited action in his first season in Clemson’s program in 2022, when he hit .105 with a run in nine games. However, he burst onto the scene and became one of the best hitters in the ACC and country in 2023, when he earned first-team All-ACC and first-team All-American honors after batting .413 with 13 homers, 17 doubles, 63 RBIs, 37 runs scored, a .772 slugging percentage and .464 on-base percentage in 46 games.

After transferring to Tennessee, the Batesburg, S.C., native became the starting third baseman for the Volunteers and hit .306 with 23 home runs, 65 RBI and 67 runs scored while playing a big role in helping the Vols go 60-13 and beat Texas A&M to win the College World Series.
