CLEMSON — Last Friday, Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado issued a nationwide, class-wide preliminary injunction requiring the NCAA to grant a fifth year of eligibility to all Division I athletes from the high school class of 2022, who have already exhausted their eligibility.

The ruling sent college athletics into a panic, wondering what it meant for roster caps, NIL, revenue sharing and the transfer portal. A day later, Judge Sweeney clarified her temporary injunction regarding NCAA player eligibility does not change or override the landmark House v. NCAA antitrust settlement.

Her order only grants a fifth year of eligibility for specific high school class of 2022 athletes and does not alter revenue-sharing caps or roster limits.

Even with all of that, Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney said the Tigers’ 2026 roster will not be affected by the ruling or any of the preliminary injunctions that were recently order in Tennessee, Ohio and Georgia.

“No. Our roster is set,” Swinney said Thursday prior to Clemson hitting the practice fields to open fall camp. “We have to play in 30 days. There ain’t nobody coming in here to save us. We got what we got. We have to get them ready.”

Some speculated if Clemson would be able to out and get another linebacker after what happened in the whole Luke Ferrelli situation. Or maybe the Tigers could have added a defensive tackle to the roster, being that attrition has already struck the team at that position.

Clemson, of course, opens the season at No. 13 LSU on Sept. 5 in Baton Rouge, La. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll, which was released earlier this week.
