CLEMSON — When No. 23 Clemson opened camp Thursday afternoon behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex, the Tigers went on the field with more than 100 players. Of those 100 players, not even one of them were starters.

No one.

“I don’t have any starters. I’m just going to tell you there ain’t nobody starting,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said.

And thus began fall camp for the 2026 Clemson Tigers. No one is a starter.

Do not think Swinney isn’t serious, either. In year’s past, Clemson has always had a depth chart in its annual media guide, but that is not the case this year.

The Tigers literally have no depth chart.  

“Somebody’s going to run out there today because you got to go practice,” Swinney said. “But we’re going to evaluate them every day and if you run out there first tomorrow, then that’s because you earned it today. Not because we just think you’re supposed to be the best one.”

Of course, the biggest competition is at quarterback where senior Christopher Vizzina is trying to hold off freshman Tait Reynolds for the starting job. Vizzina entered fall camp in “pole position” but offensive coordinator Chad Morris and Swinney made it clear there was a legitimate competition coming into camp.

The same can be said at running back, tight end, several spots on the offensive line, defensive tackle and the second linebacker spot opposite Sammy Brown. In other words, there is competition all over the field.

“That’s just where we’re at. And that’s the type of competition that we have really, I think, at every position. And we got a lot of competition,” Swinney said. “So, I don’t really have a depth chart. Don’t really have any starters to give you. I really don’t.”

Everyone will find out who starts for Clemson on Sept. 5, when the Tigers invade Baton Rouge, La., and No. 13 LSU.
