Two young players, in particular, have really stood out to Clemson running back Chris Johnson Jr.

Following Monday’s practice that marked the fourth of Clemson’s fall camp, Johnson – the speedster who enrolled at Clemson in January, transferring from SMU – was asked to name who has caught his eye on offense since he’s been a member of the Tigers’ program.

Johnson singled out two first-year talents – the first of which is freshman wide receiver Gordon Sellars.

“I’d probably say Gordon Sellars,” Johnson said. “He came in, he’s the type of receiver that you would want. Just coming in as a freshman, his size and what he can do – I’ve been very pleased with Gordo.”

Johnson also gave a shoutout to freshman wide receiver Naeem Burroughs, who, like Sellars, signed with the Tigers last December and enrolled early in January.

“Really all the young guys, like Naeem – especially those two guys [Burroughs and Sellars], they’ve definitely caught my eye,” Johnson added. “They’re going to do great things here.”

Sellars and Burroughs are both former consensus four-star prospects in the 2026 recruiting class. Sellars was ranked as high as the No. 28 wide receiver and No. 165 overall prospect in the country by ESPN, while Burroughs was ranked as high as the No. 43 overall prospect in the country by Rivals, which touted him as the eighth-best receiver in his class.

Sellars — a two-time all-state and all-conference honoree — tallied 2,419 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns on 133 career receptions at the prep level. As a senior, he produced 59 receptions for 917 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping guide Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.) to a perfect 13-0 record and the third state title of his career.

Sellars shined during Clemson’s March spring game, catching three passes for 34 yards, including an impressive 8-yard touchdown grab from Christopher Vizzina, where Sellars spun and hauled in the pass one-handed.

Burroughs, a product of The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla., entered the early signing period with 163 career receptions for 3,614 yards and 49 touchdown receptions. He was also credited with 649 yards on kickoff returns, 301 yards on punt returns and 17 interception return yards for a career all-purpose yardage total of 4,590.

Burroughs exceeded 650 all-purpose yards in all four years of his high school career, including reaching the 1,110-yard mark in each of his last three seasons.

Burroughs, who was also a two-time track state champion in the 4×100 relay, caught three passes for 28 yards in Clemson’s spring game.
