Clemson was without a member of its running back room for the first scrimmage of fall camp.

Senior back Jay Haynes was not able to scrimmage on Saturday due to an injury suffered in camp earlier in the week.

“Jay wasn’t able to go,” head coach Dabo Swinney said after the scrimmage on Saturday.

Haynes has not played since tearing an ACL in the 2024 ACC Championship Game win over SMU. While recovering from the knee injury, Haynes suffered a setback that kept him out all of last season and limited him during the spring.

After finally being a full go when camp started in early August, Haynes is dealing with another injury. However, this one appears to be much less severe, and the hope is he will be back in time for Thursday’s final scrimmage of fall camp.

“He was having a great camp, then got banged up the other day,” Swinney added. “Hopefully we will get him back for the next one.”

Haynes enters the 2026 season having rushed for 330 yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries. He’s also reeled in nine catches for 52 yards and a touchdown through the air.

His most productive season came in 2024, when he appeared in 13 games and rushed 43 times for 295 yards, with three touchdowns, while adding seven receptions for 32 yards.
