One of Clemson’s former quarterback targets has revealed a college decision.
Three-star signal-caller Trey Wright (Lone Star, TX) announced a commitment to Southern Cal on Saturday. The Trojans offered a week ago. Missouri, SMU, Kentucky and Oregon were some of the other schools under consideration.
Wright was one of two quarterbacks to pick up an offer from Clemson after working out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp in early June, joining four-star Trace Hawkins. Dabo Swinney’s program appeared to have gained some early traction.
However, with two offers going out and just one spot available, the race was on for who would decide first. That would ultimately be Hawkins, who announced a verbal pledge to Clemson in late July, becoming the first commitment of the Tigers’ 2028 recruiting class.
As a sophomore last year, Wright’s 5,860 total yards led the nation. He passed for 4,062 yards with 38 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He completed 67% of his passes and added another 1,764 yards rushing with 16 more touchdowns.
Rivals ranks Wright No. 23 among all quarterbacks in the class.
