Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on a defensive tackle who had been sidelined due to injury.
After Thursday’s scrimmage at Memorial Stadium, Swinney updated the status of senior Vic Burley.
Burley has been dealing with an undisclosed injury that has kept him out for most of camp. However, he is back practicing now and stood out to Swinney multiple times during Thursday’s scrimmage.
“Yep,” Swinney said when asked if Burley is back at practice yet. “I actually noticed Vic today. At least three times. So, all good stuff. I noticed him three times, that I can think of. It was good to see him out there.”
Burley enters the 2026 season having recorded 24 tackles (0.5 for loss) and a pass breakup in 267 defensive snaps over 21 career games (one start).
The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder arrived at Clemson in 2023 as the Georgia AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus top-80 recruit.
When Burley arrived at Clemson, expectations were extremely high due to his high school pedigree. However, injuries derailed his freshman campaign, and he missed the entire season. The following season, he logged less than 100 snaps. Last season, Burley did appear in all 13 games, recording 15 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup in 175 defensive snaps.
He did flash during Clemson’s spring game back in March, finishing with three tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass breakup.
