Clemson Picks up First Victory of Season in Shutout Fashion

CLEMSON– No. 24 Clemson (1-1-2) found its offensive momentum against Campbell (1-2-1) in Sunday afternoon’s 5-0 shutout at Historic Riggs Field for the Tigers’ first victory in the young season.

How It Happened

  • After Clemson got four early shots on goal, sophomore Natalie Brooks opened up the Tigers’ offense with a goal in the top right of the net in the seventh minute of play. It was the first time any Tiger has scored this season. The last Clemson goal came in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in a loss to Vanderbilt last November.
  • In the 33rd minute, Taylor Leib added onto Clemson’s lead with a bottom center score off her right foot for her fourth career goal. The second goal on the scoreboard was assisted by Ella Bach.
  • Around 6 minutes later, Bach followed her assist with a goal of her own from the bottom right of the goal off her right foot. Leib returned the favor with the assist alongside Sadie Peterson.
  • At the halftime mark, Clemson led Campbell with a 3-0 score. However, despite the Camels’ scoreless board, goalie Anais van Doesburg had 5 saves to limit the Tigers.
  • In the first half, Clemson held the mismatched advantage 16 shots versus Campbell’s 3 shots. Additionally, the Tigers heavily outweighed the Camels with 8-1 shots on goal. Additionally, the Tigers boasted a 6-0 corner kick advantage at the break.
  • Goalie Nona Reason finished with one save, marking her third performance without allowing a goal.
  • With 23 minutes left in the second half, Maddie Costello extended Clemson’s lead to 4-0 with an unassisted score off the top right of the goal off of her right foot.
  • Only 6 minutes later, at the 72 minute mark, Clemson’s Reagan Thompson added to the Tigers’ domination with another unassisted score.
  • Clemson finished with 30 shots to Campebell’s four shots. The Tigers also finished with 13 shots on goal against Campbell’s one.
  • All five players that scored for the Tigers are underclassmen.
  • Clemson has still only allowed one goal in four games this season.
