CLEMSON — The Clemson Insider obtained the details on why Clemson defensive tackle Vic Burley was suspended indefinitely by head coach Dabo Swinney on Saturday.

According to a Clemson University Police Department incident report, TCI requested on Monday, Burley was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

The senior graduate was arrested Saturday morning after he was allegedly found asleep at 2:15 a.m., by officers in his truck with the vehicle running. The report also stats Burley was impaired and did not respond when the officers opened his door.

Officers searched Burley’s vehicle and found a THC vape, as well as a Glock 19 handgun. The report does not say who the handgun belongs to. From there, Burley was transported to jail, where he was booked without incident.

Burley was released on Sunday and has an Oct. 14 court date set.

“Earlier today, I was made aware of defensive tackle Vic Burley’s arrest by the Clemson University Police Department for disorderly conduct early Saturday morning. I have made the decision to suspend Vic from our football team indefinitely. We are extremely disappointed by his actions and decisions,” Swinney said in a press release on Saturday afternoon.

According to the incident report, the initial officer on the scene stopped because he saw another person sleeping on the grass outside a parked truck. The other person was identified as a male Clemson student.

The student told police he had been waiting for a friend to pick him and his fiancée up.

The officer noted in the report, “it was odd for the truck to be sitting in this parking space, still on, with the owner not on scene.”

Burley’s truck was parked on Calhoun Drive on Clemson’s campus. He allegedly parked the truck unevenly where it was impending the public roadway, according to the report.

When the officer approached the truck he saw a person asleep in the driver’s seat and called for another officer to assist at the scene. The two officers opened the door and allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck.

The driver of the truck was identified as Burley by his driver’s license. The report says Burley remained asleep after the officers opened the vehicle and as they shut the engine off.

According to the report, he was unsteady and had slurred speech after they woke him up “and did not directly answer questions.”

The report also indicates Burley allegedly told officers he was waiting to pick up one of his friends and their fiancée, which went with the other Clemson student’s story that caused the officer to stop in the first place.

According to Clemson’s Physical Security Operations Center, Burley’s truck was parked on Calhoun Drive around 10:40 p.m., on Friday night, and Burley did not leave the truck until officers took him out of the vehicle nearly four hours later. Clemson’s Physical Operations Center, maintains security cameras for Clemson University’s Campus.

A former five-star talent, Burley is entering his fourth season with the Tigers and the expectation was he’d be ready for a much larger role during the coming season. However, an injury has kept him out for much of camp, although he did just return in time for Thursday’s second and final scrimmage ahead of the season opener at LSU on Sept. 5.

After not seeing the field much over his first two seasons, Burley logged 175 snaps last year, appearing in all 13 games. He finished with 15 tackles. 0.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. Burley is listed as a senior graduate on this year’s roster.
