CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney feels his team should not be judged off of what happened in one game, even if it did lose by 41 points at LSU last Saturday night.

The theme of Swinney’s weekly press conference on Tuesday at the Smart Family Media Center is that last week was just one game and this team, its coaches and its players should not be judged just off that result.

However, Swinney was asked if he regrets any of his off-season decisions in regards to roster construction.

Keep in mind, the Tigers allowed 644 yards of total offense to LSU, averaged 6.9 yards per play, had 38 first downs and 10 of 14 conversions on third down. At the same time, Clemson had just 145 total yards, averaged 3.0 yards per play, had 8 first downs and was 1-for-13 on third down.

“I do not. I regret being 0-1 right now. I regret that, but can you ask me that at the end of the season,” Swinney replied back to the reporter. “The season is not over. We played just one game. We have eleven more. What happens if we go 11-1. You promise me you will ask me that then… Good, I will answer it.

“But I am not answering questions like that… I know that is your role in this environment, to be the guy who wants to create all the controversy and ask the controversial questions. If that is who you are, then fine. I get it.”

Swinney did eventually answer the question, but as he did, it appeared he got a little more aggravated about answering the question.

“I’ll answer it, we played one game. One game, alight. Did you play football? They give you twelve games and at the end of the year you count them up,” the Clemson coach said. “That is when those types of questions are fair to me. Not after one game to maybe the best team in the country.

“Other people have good teams, good coaches and things like that too. So, I give them credit. We have eleven more games to go battle and then we will count them up. Then you can ask me whatever question you want.”
