CLEMSON– Notre Dame’s Tristan Tropeano scored at the top center of the goal at the 88th minute Friday night to beat No. 17 Clemson 1-0 at Historic Riggs Field.
The loss dropped the Tigers’ record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC, while the Irish improved to 3-1-2 and 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the match scoreless through the first 87 minutes, Vlad Walent got the ball to Tropeano who hit the ball with his right foot at the top center of the goal.
- The Tigers outshot the Fighting Irish 15-12 and had a 4-3 advantage on goals.
- Clemson also had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- The Tigers most promising look of the first half came from a header off of Cooper Hineline that bounced directly off the goal post after a strong serve from senior Remi Okunlola 16 minutes into the game.
- Clemson had several chances in the second half, putting 11 shots at the goal, while recording seven corners.
- Clemson tried to battle back in the final minute as Mason Jimenez was on the receiving end of a corner-kick cross from Okunlola, but Notre Dame keeper Blake Kelly was in position to scoop it up and seal the Fighting Irish’s victory.
