Clemson senior quarterback Christopher Vizzina was injured in the first half of Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern and did not return during the Tigers’ eventual 22-7 victory at Memorial Stadium.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said at halftime that Vizzina had a left arm injury, with Swinney saying the Tigers were going to put Vizzina back into the game at some point after he was replaced by true freshman Tait Reynolds, but Vizzina “couldn’t feel his left arm.”

After the game, Swinney gave an update on Vizzina’s injury.

Swinney said the Tigers planned to put Reynolds in for the fourth series, regardless of what happened. Swinney said Vizzina couldn’t go back in later because he was “numb” in his left arm.

“He took a shot on his left arm, so hopefully that’ll settle down,” Swinney said.

Swinney was asked if he anticipates Vizzina’s injury being long-term.

“I don’t know,” Swinney said. “Again, we wanted to get him back in there, but his left arm was numb, basically,” Swinney said.

“Hopefully it’s nothing bad,” Swinney added.

Vizzina started the game and played the first three series, completing 4 of 7 passes for 19 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Moore that gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 11:01 to play in the first quarter. However, Vizzina’s final pass of the contest was a poorly thrown deep ball that was intercepted.

The Tigers had 31 yards on 11 plays with Vizzina at quarterback.

Clemson stays at home next Saturday and will host North Carolina at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN.
