Former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence earned a weekly honor from this national outlet following his superb season-opening performance for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Trevor Lawrence was named Pro Football Focus (PFF) Quarterback of the Week for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.

In Jacksonville’s 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 13, Lawrence went 18-of-23 passing (78.3% completion percentage) for 245 yards and four touchdowns.

Lawrence did not throw an interception and posted a career-high 150.6 passer rating with an 86.2 PFF passing grade.

“Lawrence was phenomenal in the Jaguars’ season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns,” PFF’s Gordon McGuinness wrote. “His +22.0% Completion Percentage Over Expectation led the NFL this week, while his +3.0% Accuracy Over Expectation ranked 10th.”

Lawrence made history Sunday, as his four passing touchdowns set a new Week 1 franchise record. He connected with Parker Washington, Josh Cameron, Brenton Strange and Jakobi Meyers for touchdowns, with three of those TD passes coming in the first half. Two of Lawrence’s four touchdowns went for 30-plus yards.

“I thought he spread the ball around, trusted the guys that were in to make plays,” Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said of Lawrence’s performance. “I thought we protected him really well. I thought we mixed it up from the run game and some different things to keep them off balance to allow Trevor to continue to do what he does. He did some really good stuff off schedule again today – especially the touchdown to Jakobi, I thought was a phenomenal throw and play in the back of the end zone. So, was definitely pleased with the way that Trevor ran the offense today.”

Lawrence ended the 2025 season on a heater, putting together a remarkable stretch of play to help the Jaguars win the AFC South title. Last season, Lawrence was named an NFL MVP finalist, as well as a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year.

With his three first-half touchdown passes in Week 1 of the 2026 campaign, Lawrence has now thrown for three first-half touchdowns in three of his last five games. No other NFL QB has more than one such game in that span.

Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, became the fourth player in NFL history to have at least 100 passing and 20 rushing touchdowns prior to his 27th birthday. Now in his sixth NFL season, he has accounted for 102 career passing touchdowns and 23 rushing touchdowns. He is the third player in franchise history to reach 100 passing touchdowns.

Now in Year 2 of Coen’s offensive system, Lawrence is comfortable and confident.

“I feel really comfortable, really confident in what we’re doing,” Lawrence said. “I think last year at this time, I knew what we were doing, but it was still — you’re still getting used to the game plan and the moving parts of the offense, which was a lot, which is a big change for me. I think there was that dynamic of still trying to get completely comfortable in it.

“So I think all that stuff, I feel really good. And like I said, we gotta have a short memory and enjoy it [Sunday]. It was awesome to get a win in Week 1, but just excited now – we’ve got a big challenge next week, and we’ve got to turn the page and go put together another great game plan.”

After opening at home, the Jaguars will go on the road to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
