One of Clemson’s running backs is still trying to make his way back to the field.

Senior Jay Haynes, who has not played since tearing an ACL during the 2024 ACC Championship Game victory over SMU, had another setback, Dabo Swinney announced during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

“Jay Haynes has kind of been on ice,” the head coach said. “He had to get re-evaluated, and he is kind of working his way back. Got confirmation on what he is dealing with.”

While recovering from the knee injury, Haynes suffered a setback that kept him out all of last season and limited him during the spring. He was finally a full go when camp started in early August, before dealing with this latest injury.

Swinney does expect the running back to return at some point this season.

“He is still coming,” Swinney added. “At some point we will need him.”

During his career at Clemson, Haynes has rushed for 330 yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries. He has also reeled in nine catches for 52 yards and a touchdown through the air.
