Following Clemson’s 24-10 win over Cal on Friday night at Cal’s Memorial Stadium, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on a backup running back who suffered a serious injury in the game.

Clemson junior running back David Eziomume was down on the field for an extended period of time after suffering an apparent leg injury on a kick return in the first quarter.

The cart was brought out, and the whole Clemson team came off the bench over to Eziomume, showing him support as he left the field on the cart. His leg was placed in an air cast before he was taken off.

Swinney said after the game that Eziomume’s injury doesn’t look good and it appears similar to the season-ending lower leg injury that defensive tackle Markus Strong suffered in the season opener at LSU.

“It didn’t look good on [Eziomume],” Swinney said. “It didn’t sound good there. I think they felt like it was similar to what Markus Strong had. So, that’s a tough break for us there. We’ll have to confirm all that, but it didn’t sound good with him.”

Eziomume scored an 11-yard touchdown on his lone carry of the season late in the LSU game.

The Acworth, Ga., native from North Cobb High School entered the 2026 season having rushed 26 times for 133 yards in 100 career offensive snaps over 14 games from 2024-25.
