Former Clemson star quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson balled out and posted standout performances on Sunday in Week 3 of the NFL season.
After a quiet Week 2, Lawrence bounced back strongly and shined in Week 3.
Lawrence led the Jacksonville Jaguars to a dominant 35-6 victory over the New England Patriots at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Lawrence went 19-of-29 passing for 182 yards and threw three touchdown passes with one interception (on a tipped pass), while also rushing for 25 yards on four carries. He recorded a passer rating of 102.9.
In the second quarter, Lawrence threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Josh Cameron and then connected with Jakobi Meyers for a 10-yard touchdown, helping Jacksonville build a 14-3 lead. He hooked up with Parker Washington for a 17-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, giving the Jaguars a 21-3 advantage.
Lawrence could have had a touchdown run, too, but he opted to kneel down at the 1-yard line instead of scoring a TD with a little less than nine minutes left in the game.
A week after being held without a touchdown in the Week 2 loss to Denver, Lawrence carved up the Patriots’ tough defense to help the Jaguars improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Jags hit the road to face the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday in Week 4.
Watson, meanwhile, also shined while leading the Cleveland Browns to victory in Week 3, helping the squad go to 2-1 with a 21-18 win over the Carolina Panthers.
His steady performance and mobility helped guide the Browns through their home opener at Huntington Bank Field, building on the momentum from his Week 2 performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which marked his first win since 2024 after he missed all of the 2025 season due to injury.
Against the Panthers, Watson completed 16 of 30 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers. He registered an 88.8 passer rating and also rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries.
Watson hit Harold Fannin Jr. for a 2-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter as Cleveland took a 10-0 lead.
After Carolina rallied to go ahead 18-13 with 4:25 left in the game, Watson stepped up and led an eight-play, 65-yard drive, capping it with a clutch 14-yard touchdown pass to Fannin Jr. that proved to be the game-winning score. It was an impressive throw that Watson made on the move after scrambling to his left. He also hit Denzel Boston for the two-point conversion.
During that drive, he came back into the game after leaving briefly following a hard hit.
The Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday to start the NFL’s Week 4 slate.
