Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media during his teleconference on Sunday evening following the Tigers’ 24-10 win at Cal on Friday night.

Swinney provided an update on Clemson junior running back David Eziomume, who suffered a serious injury in the game.

Swinney confirmed that Eziomume will be out for the year.

His injury occurred during the first quarter. While Eziomume was blocking on a special teams kickoff return, a Cal player fell sideways into his lower left leg. The cart was brought out, and the whole Clemson team came off the bench over to Eziomume, showing him support as he left the field on the cart. His leg was placed in an air cast before he was taken off.

Swinney said Eziomume’s surgery is similar to what defensive tackle Markus Strong had to have. Strong suffered a season-ending lower-leg injury in the season opener at LSU.

Eziomume scored an 11-yard touchdown on his lone carry of the season late in the LSU game.

The Acworth, Ga., native from North Cobb High School entered the 2026 season having rushed 26 times for 133 yards in 100 career offensive snaps over 14 games from 2024-25.

Aside from Eziomume, Swinney labeled the other injuries Clemson is dealing with as day-to-day.

“Outside of that, everybody will be pretty much day-to-day, from being banged up from this [Cal] game or a previous game,” Swinney said.

Clemson (3-1, 2-0 ACC) plays host to Miami (4-0, 2-0) on Saturday, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
