Back in May, Clemson announced that defensive tackle Hevin Brown-Shuler had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, which would obviously force him to miss the 2026 season.

During his radio show Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on how things are progressing for the junior.

Swinney said Brown-Shuler is “doing great” in his recovery and has just one or two rounds of treatment left.

“He’s doing great,” Swinney said. “I think he’s got one or two more chemo treatments.”

Swinney also shared that Brown-Shuler reached out to his head coach with an inspirational message ahead of last Friday night’s 24-10 win at Cal – and Swinney added that Brown-Shuler himself has been an inspiration to others.

“He texted me when I was out in Cal. He texted me kind of an inspirational message, just kind of encouraging me,” Swinney said.

“I’m super proud of Hevin,” Swinney continued. “He’s done a great job, and again, he’s responded well. It’s just a tough process that you have to go through, but he’s doing well, and I know he’s been able to inspire a lot of people as he’s gone through the treatments and stuff. But so far, he’s been holding up really well.”

Brown-Shuler committed to Clemson in April 2023 as a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class according to multiple recruiting services. He was ranked as a top-150 national prospect and the country’s sixth-best defensive tackle by Rivals.

A four-time all-region and all-state honoree at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Brown-Shuler enrolled at Clemson in the summer of 2024. He redshirted his first season at Clemson, while recording five tackles in 49 defensive snaps over four games. In 2025, he played 57 defensive snaps and registered one tackle across three games.
