During his Tuesday press conference ahead of Saturday’s game vs. No. 4 Miami, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave the latest on the injury status of a starting defensive back.

Swinney revealed last week that starting Tiger nickelback Corian Gipson was “banged up” and was “really limited throughout the week” of practice heading into the UNC game on Sept. 19. He tried to go against the Tar Heels, but was limited to just two snaps, and then ended up missing last Friday’s game at Cal.

 On Tuesday, Swinney was asked if Gipson is practicing this week ahead of the matchup against the Hurricanes.

“Yeah,” Swinney confirmed.

So, is Gipson good to go for the big ACC showdown?

Swinney says that remains to be seen.

“We’ll see, but he’s practicing,” Swinney said. “So, we’ll find out today. He practiced last night, so we’ll see.”

Saturday’s game at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on ABC.

Gipson started each of the Tigers’ first three games this season, playing 54 snaps in the opener at LSU and 45 in the home opener vs. Georgia Southern before being limited to the two snaps in the North Carolina game.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound junior collected four tackles at LSU before adding five tackles vs. Georgia Southern.

After playing 14 defensive snaps over four games while redshirting in 2024, Gipson was credited with 14 tackles and three pass breakups in 189 defensive snaps over 12 games (three starts) in 2025 and earned Clemson’s starting Tiger nickelback role down the stretch.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Gipson came to Clemson as a four-star prospect and top-100 national talent in the 2024 recruiting class, but an ACL tear early in his senior year of high school set him back.
