What They’re Saying: Clemson’s Loss to No. 4 Miami

By: Gavin Oliver October 5, 2026

No. 4 Miami rolled past Clemson 41-13 on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium, claiming sole possession of first place in the ACC standings.

The Hurricanes improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Tigers fell to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The 28-point defeat marked the fourth-worst loss for Clemson under Dabo Swinney and the second-largest home loss in the Swinney era.

With the win, Miami took an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with Clemson.

Check out some of what they’re saying about the game below:

A NIGHTMARE night for Clemson 😬

The funny, and probably condescending, thing is that I’ve left each of Miami’s conference games thinking more highly of the team UM beat by multiple scores.

Clemson is not an awful team. Their passing offense is not good. But they’re not terrible.

51-10
41-13

Clemson used to do that to other teams & now they’re having it done to them.

Appreciate it Dabo.

Before you say that Clemson is getting better–remember that the Cal team Clemson beat lost to UNLV today. That same UNLV lost to North Texas 44-6.

We have one of the worst, softest 30 million dollar rosters maybe ever?!? There is talent but these coaches can't put it together.

Despite the loss to Miami, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was encouraged by his team's performance, which he said was not indicative of the box score.

Dabo Swinney sees some positives after a 41-13 loss vs. Miami: “I know it's weird to say that when you lose a ball game, but man, I saw some good stuff out there tonight. I saw some Clemson football. I saw some toughness. I saw some physicality.”

Ashton Hampton had Malachi Toney IN A BOX all game long tonight.

Hampton allowed 3 total targets, 1 reception (8 yards), and had 2 PD’s against Toney.

The Clemson CB is one of the ONLY CB’s in HISTORY to lock up Toney like this 😳🔒 pic.twitter.com/ir4NNM16P0

Clemson’s Ashton Hampton is one of the best cornerbacks in the country and he’s showing it tonight against Miami. Incredible job playing through the hands.

I watched Clemson do this to so many teams for years.

Miami has it. Clear and convincing to anyone who watches them play.

Look, whatever happens the rest of the way, Clemson has played tough and hard tonight. They have clearly improved in almost every area. I never expected them to win this game but they have shown me something tonight. The defense has balled out all night.

If Miami can get healthy, big IF as of now, I could see them beating Texas to win the NC.
