A former Clemson star got a big opportunity on Sunday in Week 5 of the NFL season, and did find the end zone, but then unfortunately suffered an injury that cut his day short.
During the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Eagles running back and former Tiger standout Will Shipley scored his first career regular-season touchdown but was subsequently ruled out with a foot injury.
Unfortunately, the update on Shipley’s injury isn’t great news, per a report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
According to Schefter on Monday, Shipley suffered a partial tear of his plantar fascia and could miss multiple weeks.
Shipley had stepped into a starting role for Sunday’s game because starter Saquon Barkley was sidelined with a hamstring injury and primary backup Tank Bigsby was placed on injured reserve.
Shipley managed to score his first career regular-season touchdown on a 2-yard run in the second quarter before exiting the game later in the same quarter due to the foot injury. He finished the day with five carries for 6 yards and his touchdown, along with a 7-yard reception.
Shipley is now in his third NFL season after being selected by the Eagles in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. In five games this season, Shipley has rushed for 57 yards and the touchdown on 20 carries while catching five passes for 31 yards.
Shipley’s 2024 rookie NFL campaign culminated with him earning a Super Bowl championship ring when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
While he scored his first career NFL regular-season touchdown on Sunday in Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season, Shipley scored his first overall career touchdown on a 2-yard run in the NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders on January 26, 2025, while also tallying 165 all-purpose yards, two tackles and a forced fumble.
Shipley enjoyed an outstanding three-year career at Clemson from 2021-23. The dynamic and versatile athlete recorded 2,747 yards and 31 touchdowns on 526 career rushing attempts, along with 602 yards and two touchdowns on 85 career receptions over 36 career games, including 27 starts. He was also credited with 34 career kickoff returns for 904 yards, as well as one pass attempt for a 2-yard touchdown.
