Former Clemson two-sport athlete Ian Schieffelin delivered another solid NBA preseason performance this past weekend.
Schieffelin continued his strong impression with the Miami Heat, posting 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench in Saturday’s 125-124 preseason loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The undrafted Clemson forward was highly efficient in his 23 minutes on the floor, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and knocking down 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest.
That showing comes on the heels of an impressive preseason debut on Oct. 3, when he dropped 11 points in just 10 minutes against the Toronto Raptors, while adding three rebounds and one assist. He went 4-of-4 from the field, made his lone 3-point attempt and hit each of his two free-throws.
Schieffelin signed an Exhibit 10 training camp contract with Miami in late September, giving him the chance to compete for a regular-season roster spot or secure a two-way contract.
Schieffelin played five games for Miami in the NBA Summer League, averaging 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds.
A Clemson basketball standout for four seasons from 2021-25, Schieffelin completed his eligibility in basketball before opting to use the final year of his five-year collegiate clock to pursue football. He joined the Clemson football team as a tight end ahead of fall camp last year and appeared in eight games last season, playing 20 total offensive snaps while catching two passes for 10 yards.
On the hardwood, Schieffelin was part of one of the most successful runs in school history. He helped lead the Tigers to their second Elite Eight appearance in 2024, the program’s first since 1980.
In his final basketball season, he garnered All-ACC second-team status, while helping Clemson to a 27-7 record, including an 18-2 mark in the ACC. He averaged 33.4 minutes per game, 12.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists – all career highs.
Overall, in his Clemson basketball career, Schieffelin averaged 8.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.4 blocks across 134 career contests (99 starts). For his career, he shot 50.8 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from 3-point range.
