What They’re Saying: Clemson’s Loss to Virginia Tech

By: Gavin Oliver October 26, 2026

Virginia Tech came into Clemson’s Memorial Stadium on Saturday night and earned its first win over the Tigers since 2007.

The Hokies snapped their seven-game losing streak to the Tigers and handed Dabo Swinney his first career loss to Virginia Tech.

The loss dropped Clemson to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC, all but ending any hopes of making it to the ACC Championship Game in December. The Hokies improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the ACC.

The Tigers are now just 2-8 in their last 10 home games versus Power 4 opponents.

There were plenty of reactions on social media to Virginia Tech’s victory over the Tigers. Check out some of what they’re saying below:

FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2007 THE HOKIES BEAT CLEMSON 🤯

Franklin on the win at Clemson: "I don't think we've won here since 2007. To me, that speaks volumes." #Hokies

James Franklin greeted nearly everyone repping Virginia Tech going into the tunnel, then doubled back and helped the equipment guy push his cart in.

The Hokies take down Clemson in Death Valley. James Franklin is 6-2 in Year 1.

Clemson is now 2-8 in last 10 games in Death Valley vs. Power 4 programs.

There is no historical precedence in the last 50 years for similar futility at home.

For perspective during previous terrible stretches:

Between '92-'95 there was a stretch we went 5-5 at home vs. Power…

It is no longer difficult for opponents to come into Death Valley & win.

Despite another outstanding crowd tonight.

In fact, it’s become quite common due to the product on the field.

Is that the standard at Clemson @GrahamNeff?

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says the fact they've lost so much at home recently "bothers me" and hurts a little extra. Dabo: "But we'll turn it around"

Is this Dabo Swinney's final season at Clemson?

He looks so checked out. pic.twitter.com/992xeyET3i

This team deserved to lose tonight. They are incompetent on offense. The qb is not a P4 starter. He can’t read defenses at this level.
— Clemson Highlights (@ClemsonRT) October 25, 2026

In the 1st half, Clemson had 21 net passing yards on 12 dropbacks (including sack yardage).

In its first two 2nd half drives, Clemson has 53 net passing yards on 4 dropbacks.

Defense was good enough.
Hauser did his part.
The offense just stinks.
— Tiger Commenter (@TigerCommenter) October 25, 2026

Dabo lost to a Penn State team that James Franklin got fired from last year & then lost tonight to Franklin’s first ever team at Virginia Tech team that was basically rebuilt from the portal.

Telling.

Simple, as we said all week, if you can't score more than 20 points, every opponent has a great chance to beat you.
— Walt Deptula (@deptulahasrage) October 25, 2026

The D is playing like a top 25 unit, the O is playing like a bottom 25 unit. Keep in mind though, all the portal help went to Tom, none went to Chad. Chad got a bad OLine and a raw kid QB for Christmas.

Just saying…

Virginia Tech 20. Clemson 16. pic.twitter.com/cppn2p9jEC

Terrible PI but we lost this game because we are bad at football and worse at coaching it.
— Austin Pendergist (@apthirteen) October 25, 2026

I still don’t understand how we let Luke Reynolds get that open, man

Predictable finish.
