Clemson backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina is dealing with another injury.
During his postgame press conference after the 18-13 win over Syracuse, Dabo Swinney said Vizzina rolled an ankle during practice on Monday, resulting in the backup quarterback being “pretty gimpy” on Tuesday. Vizzina would not have been available for the Syracuse game, according to the head coach.
“It has been a rough week,” Swinney said. “CV would not have been able to play. Monday night we are running a screen drill, and he rolls an ankle. Steps on an offensive lineman and rolls his ankle. So, he did not practice all week. He could hardly walk. He was very gimpy.”
Vizzina has not seen any game action since suffering an injury to his left elbow in the win over Georgia Southern in Week 2. The fourth-year signal caller has been available since the win over Charleston Southern on October 17.
With Vizzina once again hampered, Trent Pearman got a lot of the second-team reps this week in practice.
“Pearman’s done a good job,” Swinney said. “He has got a lot of reps, and he has gotten a lot of work, so he is ready to go.”
Across the two games he’s played in this season, both starts, Vizzina has completed 14-of-23 passes (60.9%) for 102 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions.
