Time for the latest edition of Ask TCI. Each week we will take questions on the message board The Rock. We will take questions up until midnight on Tuesday.
Each weekend we will run our Ask TCI feature with answers to some of the questions asked by the Clemson Insiders. Make sure to get your questions in next week.
Question – Do the seniors still get to vote on uniform choice?
TCI – No, the seniors no longer decide the uniforms. That is now done by Dabo. Under Tommy the seniors voted on the uniforms, but that changed when Dabo became the head coach.
Question – Do you think they will rest Timothy this week in order to let him get fully recovered?
TCI – Yes, the doctors recommended that Timothy not play so Dabo announced on Wednesday that he will not play this week.
Question – Could Morgan Roberts or Cole Stoudt run the offense like Chad likes it or is Chad Kelley tailor made for this offense?
TCI – Morris believes Chad Kelly is tailored for this offense as is DeShaun Watson. Stoudt can certainly execute the offense if needed as he proved by winning the No. 2 job.
Morris would like to have a quarterback that can be a threat with his arm as well as his feet. Tajh dropped some weight in the offseason and worked hard so he can be more of a threat running the ball. Against Auburn he showed how much more efficient the offense can with a quarterback running the ball.
Question – Now that the pressure of the first game in the dome is over, do they give Bradley a chance to show off his leg this week?
TCI – We expect to see Pinion get a chance to punt during the next two weeks. The staff has said they plan to use him this year so getting him some experience in the next two weeks would be expected.
Question – Will they have any receiving drills this week in practice offense as well as defense?
We assume you are referring to all of the drops Clemson had against Auburn. Every practice they have receiving drills but this was certainly a focus during practice this week. The biggest concern is at tight end. At receiver it is simpler. With the talent at receiver if a player consistently drops the ball they simply won’t see the field as much. At tight end Ford is the guy so they need him to settle down and catch the ball on a regular basis. As you saw last week he will get a lot of opportunities in this offense and should be open a lot with the talent at the other skill positions.
Question – Now that we have Will and Heath along with you Rob posting more and more threads. Which is awesome by the way. Is there any chance you might create new forums for them or something like that?
TCI – We won’t be adding new forums for each writer. The Rock is and will always be our top forum for Clemson fans. We are trying to do a better job of rotating the threads at the top of the board with all of the content we know have on the site. That is a challenge on some days when we put up 10 to 15 articles plus other threads.
As you will see with our new logo, which you may have already seen on Facebook, the Rock will be part of our marketing for the site.
Question – A little while back you mentioned a mobile app which I am ecstatic about. Are you still working on it? How far along?
TCI – We are hard at work on the mobile application. I am really excited about what I have seen with the mobile application this week. It should be ready for me to show to the staff in the next week or two. We expect to be ready to launch it in the next month.
Mobile will be a big part of our future at TCI. We will launch the application with some features and continue to add to it. We have some great ideas for mobile.
Question – How does the staff tell one recruit (Howard, WR) that the WR class is full, but would take North?
TCI – Well this is one of the hard parts of recruiting. Clemson, like every school, has a recruiting board. The staff is very up front with players about the numbers and where they stand on the recruiting board.
The simple truth is the staff believes North is a better player and thus oversign worthy while they don’t share the same opinion of Howard.
Howard will be at the game Saturday by the way. He has decided to come even though he understands Clemson is full at receiver. Also good to have a backup plan in case one of the committed players decided to go elsewhere.
Question – My question would center on the future of the running back position. In your opinion, do you think it will be Howard next year or will Brooks be in a position to take over. Will Dye or Gallman be immediate impact players (like the poster above said about Gurley at GA) With Cook and Oglesby coming in 2014, who do you think will be “the guy” to step up and take over. I know it’s hard to project, but how do you see the RB position shaping up over the next few years.
TCI – Next year it will be running back by committee. It is really too early to know who will see the most time. A lot of that will depend on how Howard does this season. The staff has said they expect to play Brooks this year, but with McDowell and Howard both playing well last week and if Ellington can stay healthy you could see that decision change.
The Clemson staff is very high on Gallman and Dye. Dye certainly could come in and make a big impact next year. We would expect one of those guys to see the field next fall and maybe see significant playing time.
As we have mentioned before Gallman could be a 5-star linebacker if he wanted to play linebacker. He will get his first shot at running back as that he where he prefers to play. Gallman showed us last week that he has great hands as he made several nice catches against Miami Central.
In our opinion Cook is the best of the bunch but he is of course a 2014 prospect.
