Clemson (18-11, 5-5 ACC) will travel to Chestnut Hill, MA to take on Boston College (5-22, 0-11 ACC) in a three-game series at Commander Shea Field this weekend. Friday’s opener is scheduled for a 2:30PM start, Saturday’s contest is set for 1:30PM, and Sunday’s finale is scheduled for 12:00PM.
The Series
Clemson and North Carolina have met 21 times on the diamond, with the Tigers holding a 15-6 lead in the series. The teams first met in 2006 during the Eagles first season in the ACC.
Last season at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, the Tigers swept the Eagles by scores of 6-4, 6-3, and 5-1. The last times the teams met in Chestnut Hill, Clemson swept three games from Boston College by a combined score of 25-9. The Eagles last win (11-5) in the series came at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on April 3, 2010.
The Tigers hold a 7-2 lead in games played at Boston College and all 21 meetings have been ACC regular-season matchups. Jack Leggett is 16-7 all-time against the Eagles (15-6 at Clemson, 1-1 at Vermont).
The Eagles
Boston College, led by third-year Head Coach Mike Gambino, is 5-22 (0-11) on the season and have played just one game at home this season (a 8-6 win over Harvard on Wednesday). The Eagles enter the weekend off wins at Connecticut (7-4) and the win over Harvard after being swept in three games at Duke last weekend. Boston College was picked by ACC coaches to finish sixth in the six-team Atlantic Division and is coming off a 22-32 (10-20 ACC) season in 2012.
The Eagles are hitting .204 as a team in 2013 with 36 doubles, four triples, six homers, 14 stolen bases (in 19 chances), 93 walks, 13 hit-by-pitches, and 180 strikeouts while averaging 3.0 runs per game. Boston College’s pitching staff has a 7.00 ERA this season, allowing 291 hits (.319 opponents’ batting average) and 119 walks against 149 strikeouts in 225.0 innings. The Tigers
Clemson enters the game 18-11 (6-6 ACC) off a midweek win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday after dropping two of three games at top-ranked North Carolina last weekend. The Tigers are 5-4 away from Doug Kingsmore Stadium in 2013, including a 4-4 mark on opponents’ home fields. Clemson was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Division in 2013 by ACC coaches and is coming off a 35-28 (16-14) season in 2012 that included an appearance in the Columbia Regional.
The Tigers are hitting .270 as a team in 2013 with 48 doubles, three triples, 10 homers, 41 stolen bases (in 61 chances), 91 walks, 14 hit-by-pitches, and 196 strikeouts while averaging 5.0 runs per game.
