Committee trying to send Clemson back to Columbia

Earlier Sunday evening Clemson learned that they will not be hosting a Regional this year.  Just about ten days ago the Tigers were fighting for a National Seed.

TheClemsonInsider.com has learned that the committee is considering Clemson to the Regional at South Carolina next weekend.  Earlier in the day TCI learned that Clemson would not be sent to Columbia unless ESPN pushed for that match-up which is what occurred last year.

It is our understanding that the ACC, SEC, Clemson and South Carolina are against the Tigers traveling to Columbia for the regional for the second year in a row.  Right now it appears that the committee is overriding those concerns.

It is unclear why ESPN would play any role in the tournament selection, but we understand that played a role last year in the match-up and appears to be the case again this year.

Last season South Carolina defeated Clemson 4-3 to win the Columbia Regional as Brad Felder’s fly ball was caught just a couple of feet from the wall with one on and two outs in the ninth.
