The  TCI staff of Hale McGranahan, Will Vandervort, William Qualkinbush and Robert MacRae go Around the Horn to answer some of the questions surrounding Clemson athletics and college football.

Which weapon does Clemson most need to take away from top-ranked Florida State on Sept. 20? Karlos Williams, Rashad Greene or Nick O’Leary?

Robert MacRae:  “”This is a hard question as both Greene and O’Leary are great players.  I will have to go with Greene as he will likely get more targets.  If the Tigers can take Greene out of the game it will certainly increase the opportunity for their first win on the road against a No. 1 team.  The best way to stop both is to get lots of pressure on Winston.  To me that will be one of the keys to victory.  The Clemson defensive line has to dominate and live in the Florida State backfield.”

William Qualkinbush: “All of these guys are incredibly important to the Seminoles’ offensive apparatus. I’m not sure how good Williams actually is, so I’ll go ahead and eliminate him. I think O’Leary is the toughest matchup in the country, but I just don’t think FSU uses him enough. I think Greene is the most important weapon to take away. He made two incredible catch-and-run plays in last year’s game that swung the momentum significantly in the Seminoles’ favor. Plus, the rest of the wideouts are relatively unproven, so if Greene is limited, it puts the onus on Winston to utilize the backs and tight ends more. I’m not sure he’s totally comfortable doing that for an entire game. Controlling Greene is easier said than done, but it might be the best way for Clemson’s defense to be able to corral an offense that burned it for more than 40 points last season.”

Will Vandervort: “This one is easy, Rashad Greene. He has been a Tiger killer since he has been there. Jimbo Fisher said earlier this week that Greene was a big reason why they were able to do what they did at Clemson last year. He had eight catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the 51-14 win in Death Valley. One of those touchdowns was a 72-yard catch and run. In his three games against Clemson, he has caught 20 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns. I don’t know if the Tigers can win this game, but its obvious if they stop Greene they will have a better chance. I guess this will be the first time we really get to see what Mr. Alexander can do at cornerback.”

Hale McGranahan: “O’Leary, they’ve got to find a way to stop him. Slow down Williams and they’ve still got Mario Pender and Dalvin Cook to hand the ball to. Limit Greene and you’ve still got to worry about Christian Green, Kermit Whitfield and super freshman Ermon Lane. Who else do they have at tight end?”
