During an overnight visit earlier this month, Clemson offered three-star small forward [autotag]Jalen Johnson[/autotag].

The 6-foot-6, 170-pound prospect from Wesleyan Christian in High Point, N.C. also lists offers from Wake Forest, Texas Tech and a handful of mid-major schools, including Old Dominion.

Along with head coach Brad Brownell, serving as the point man in Clemson’s recruitment of Johnson is assistant Steve Smith.

“Really, they were just saying how (Brownell) watched my game and how they felt there’s a need for a guy like me, a player that can shoot and a big wing,” Johnson said. “He said big wings are a necessity in a conference like the ACC.”

It was his first visit to Clemson.

“I liked what I saw. It was nice,” Johnson said. “I saw the construction and I saw the plans for what they’re trying to do in Littlejohn. It will be better facilities than what they already have. It looks like it would be a fun place to play.”

Ranked by 247 as the No. 37 small forward in the class of 2016, Johnson has been hearing from Clemson since the early part of the spring

“The academics at Clemson are pretty good. It’s a top-20 public school, so that’s good. I like sports marketing/sports communication department,” he said.

Johnson will see what comes of the July evaluation period before setting official visits this fall.

“Just a place where I feel like it’s a good fit and a good relationship with the players. Also, a place where I feel I can play more. And, also, a strong academic school, too,” he said.

As a junior, he averaged 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.
