Clemson was the right fit

The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still a couple of months away.

With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player to the Clemson roster with the Back When series.

RB [autotag]Tyshon Dye[/autotag], Elberton, Ga. – RS Sophomore

Dye’s arrival to the Clemson recruiting landscape was marked by a visit for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp in the summer of 2011, before his junior year at Elbert County High School.

Back in the fall for games against Florida State and UNC, went through his junior season with just two offers: Clemson and Georgia.

As the calendar flipped to 2012, other offers came through, including Auburn and Tennessee. Clemson was consistently listed as a top option with Auburn and Tennessee occupying the second and third spots. Georgia floated in and out of contention.

Dye returned to Clemson in June during camp time. A month later, he was back for the inaugural All In Cookout. Four-star wide receiver DeMarcus Robinson was the first Clemson Cookout commitment. Dye soon followed suit.

“I like Clemson. I like that it’s a small town, like where I’m from. I like that it’s close to home. I like the coaches. The coaches are pretty cool and they’re straight forward with me,” Dye said.

With his commitment, Dye joined fellow four-star running back Wayne Gallman in Clemson’s 2013 class. Running backs coach Tony Elliott served as Dye’s primary recruiter.

Dye, who suffered an ankle fracture during his senior season, never wavered from his commitment to Clemson.
