Clemson entertains 4-star DT

Nyles Pinckney was one of several highly-touted prospects in Clemson for Saturday night’s win over UNC.

The four-star defensive tackle for Seabrook-Whale Branch was accompanied by his parents.

“It went well. It was a good game. It was exciting,” Pinckney told TheClemsonInsider late Saturday night.

One of the state’s top 2016 prospects, Pinckney was impressed with what he saw from the Tigers on both sides of the ball.

“The Clemson defense looked real good. It just felt like the offense didn’t go down much since last year, after losing Sammy (Watkins) and Tajh (Boyd),” he said.

There were also some positive things to say about the environment in Death Valley.

“It was good. The crowd stayed loud, I liked that. The fans were really cheering and everything,” Pinckney said.

Dabo Swinney, Dan Brooks and Tony Elliott all spoke with Pinckney before the game.

“(Swinney) talked about how they’ve got players leaving (and) how I’d have a great opportunity. Coach Brooks and coach Elliott said the same thing,” Pinckney said.

Saturday was his first game day visit of the season, but it won’t be his last. Pinckney plans to visit UNC for the Virginia Tech game; and he hopes to also visit South Carolina and Georgia this fall.

Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, UNC and South Carolina have offered the 6-3, 285-pound prospect.

“I don’t have a top five or anything like that,” Pinckney said.

It’s going to be a while before he makes a call on that.

“I plan on it at the end of my junior year, I should have a top five,” Pinckney said.

He’s also got a timeline to make a final decision.

“If I make it to an All-American game or before that I should decide,” Pinckney said.

Through five games this season, he has 44 tackles, four fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and four sacks.
