Lamar goes in-depth

Tre Lamar, the latest commitment to Clemson’s star-studded class of 2016, picked Clemson over Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Florida State.

The four-star prospect from Roswell, Ga. spoke with TheClemsonInsider on Saturday afternoon about his decision to join the Tigers’ 2016 haul. Here’s what [autotag]Tre Lamar[/autotag] had to say:

How did it go down?

Lamar: I had known for a little bit that I was going to do it yesterday at the Cookout. I talked to coach (Brent) Venables and I basically told him that I was going to commit.

When did you realize you wanted to commit to them?

Lamar: I don’t remember the exact date, but it was a couple of weeks.

What were some of the factors that led you to commit to Clemson?

Lamar: They have a great engineering program there. Coach (Tony) Elliott, who was one of my lead recruiters, also studied engineering. I just had great relationships with the coaches there.

What kind of reaction did you get from those guys when you told them that you were ready to commit?

Lamar: Everybody was really excited. I talked to everybody at the Cookout. Everyone figured out about it so fast. It was just an awesome reaction.

When you spoke to coach (Dabo) Swinney, what was he talking to you about? Anything specific you took away from your conversation with him after you committed?

Lamar: He just told me that I fit in well with the culture at Clemson. I fit in well with the program.

How about coach Venables, what has he told you about the position and role he sees for you?

Lamar: He sees me fitting in as Mike linebacker.

Clemson, in general, what are some of the things you like about the school and football program?

Lamar: It’s a winning program. Coach Venables coached the No. 1 defense in the country last year, so that’s definitely a plus for me.
