Commitments on the Cookout

For the last four years, Clemson’s All-In Cookout has served as a social gathering for the commitments and prospects in the upcoming signing class.

On Friday, most of the Tigers’ 2016 class was on campus for the annual event. Here’s what the commitments had to say about Friday’s Cookout in [autotag]Clemson[/autotag]:

QB [autotag]Zerrick Cooper[/autotag] – Jonesboro, Ga.

“I had a great time. I got a chance to talk to coach (Brandon) Streeter. I got to talk to coach (Dabo) Swinney. It’s basically like home to me. It was just good going up there hanging out with the players and coaches.”

Cooper spent time with several of the other commitments who were in town, including T.J. Chase, Rashaun Smith, J.C. Chalk and the newest member of the class, Tre Lamar.

“I knew it was a big moment, because we were trying to get (Lamar) for a long time. Now that we’re committed, we’re like brothers now, almost closer,” Cooper said.

When asked whether or not he’ll head to Florida for Friday Night Lights, Cooper told TheClemsonInsider that he was unsure what would happen.

“It’s hard for me to say, because my aunt, she’s been in the hospital, so I’ve been going back and forth to the hospital dealing with her, so it’s hard for me to say now,” he said.

WR [autotag]T.J. Chase[/autotag] – Plant City, Fla.

“It was good to get back up there. The atmosphere was great. When coach Dabo was dancing, that was pretty exciting to see.”

Chase was hung out with the Florida wide receivers that are already in Clemson: Artavis Scott, Ray Ray McCloud and Deon Cain.

“They said they were liking it so far. Since they’ve been up there, the workouts and stuff have been good.”

LB [autotag]Jamie Skalski[/autotag] – Newnan, Ga.

“It was just another at-home feeling, just excited to be up there and seeing everybody. It feels great being around coach. I feel real comfortable all the time when I’m up there.”

Skalski is a big fan of the Tigers’ head coach.

“I just love how (Swinney) is. I just love how comfortable he is around everyone. He’s just so different and I love it,” Skalski said.

For much of the evening, he alongside Lamar.

“It was really nice having him commit. That opened up a lot of football talk. But, overall, just talking and hanging out,” Skalski said.

OT [autotag]Chandler Reeves[/autotag] – McDonough, Ga.

“It was really cool. We just went down there, got there about 5:30, I think it all cranked up around 6. It was just really cool hanging out with the coaches. I didn’t really hear anybody talk about football all night. It was just kind of a time to get to know everybody and get to know everybody’s families. I got to meet a few of the other recruits and things like that.”

Reeves enjoyed getting to know more members of the Clemson coaching staff. On his other two visits, the three-star offensive tackle spent time with Robbie Caldwell and his area recruiter, Marion Hobby.

“I’d met a few coaches and I was like, ‘Man, these are all cool people.’ To basically meet the whole entire coaching staff, down to the equipment crew, whoever it was, it was like every single guy you ran into there was just full of energy and just on board for what coach Swinney is doing,” Reeves said. “It was just cool to see that and how everybody is on the same page there. It was a ton of fun.”

TE [autotag]J.C. Chalk[/autotag] – Argyle, Tex.

“It was a lot of fun. It was good being with a lot of the other commits. I was taking with a lot of the other players that are there right now. I got to talk with Garrett Williams. I got some advice from, now that he’s been there for a couple of weeks.”
