Four school tour starts in Clemson

Stuart Head is wrapping up his productive summer with visits to four ACC schools.

The tour started on Tuesday with a return to Clemson.

“It was really nice. I mean, I always like going up there and seeing the coaches and facilities. It’s nice to see coach (Brent) Venables and coach (Mike) Reed. I always like going around campus especially, so I had fun,” Head said.

Venables offered after Head showed well during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp earlier this summer. Tuesday’s stop wasn’t all about football for the 2017 safety/linebacker from Woodstock-Etowah (Ga.).

“I spoke with a professor about a major and I met with a learning specialist for the tutoring and everything, so that was nice,” Head said.

Mom, dad and older brother joined him.

“Usually, it’s just my dad that goes, so it was nice showing my mom and brother around,” Head said.

Some time was also spaced out for a sit-down with Venables and Reed.

“It was fun hanging out with them,” Head said. “Basically, they just showed me how they’re putting out their recruiting classes and how I’d fit in with the role moving in, seeing how many guys they’ll take and everything. What position and how they want to use me.”

He added, “They basically told me that they really need a guy for my class to come at DB, for possible guys leaving, so my chance to come in and play would be pretty high.”

On Wednesday morning, the Heads will visit Duke. They’ll visit Wake Forest in the afternoon before heading to UNC on Thursday morning. Carolina and Duke offered while he was on campus for camp earlier this summer. That will be trip No. 1 to Wake.

Monday is the first practice of the season for Etowah, so Heads’ focus he won’t have time to take any other visits before the season starts.

“I’m probably going to have to start thinking more strongly about academics and what the school can do for me, not more what I can do for the school,” he said. “I mean, just starting to narrow down ones I’d really consider playing for and setting up my life for.”

Along with Clemson, UNC, Duke, Vanderbilt and California have offered.

“I haven’t really made a formal list or a timeline for when I want to commit,” Head said.

As a sophomore, he had 140 tackles, 15 pass breakups and three interceptions.
