Monday Morning Quarterback

By Will Vandervort.

There is reason for optimism in Clemson and it is more than just at the quarterback position – though he helps.

Deshuan Watson was amazing Saturday night in Death Valley. His performance was one of the best I have ever witnessed and I’m not even a year removed from the Tajh Boyd era. For a true freshman to do what he did in his first career start is something we may never see again – he nearly broke two major passing records in his first start.

His six touchdown passes set a Clemson record and tied an ACC record for a single-game. His 435 passing yards were the most ever by a freshman quarterback in the ACC and the second best single-game passing performance in Clemson history. He was just 21 yards shy of breaking Boyd’s 455-yard single-game passing record set last year at Syracuse.
