Ohio corner enjoys Clemson

The first trip to Clemson for [autotag]Tony Butler[/autotag] was a successful one.

[autotag]Clemson[/autotag] hosted the three-star cornerback from Lakewood-St. Edward (Ohio) on Monday afternoon.

“I had a good trip. It was a pretty unique place. I liked it a lot. I saw a lot, so it was good,” he said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider.

Butler saw a little bit of “everything” while he was on campus.

“Academic side, football side, weight room, ocker room, coaches office, meeting rooms. We went to the stadium, that was really it,” he said.

At his side for the afternoon was defensive backs coach Mike Reed and graduate assistant Corico Wright.

What was Reed’s message?

“Really, just to make the right decision. Make sure you’re 100 percent when you make it. It doesn’t have to be here. It could be anywhere. Just make sure you’re 100 percent. Really, just telling me things like that, to make sure I make the right decision…do when the lights are off, when the cameras are off, the show is over, because a lot of people do when the show — the lights are on, the show is on. Then, you get caught up in all of that. That’s not real. The real things are when the lights are off, to grind in the books and school, things like that. That really touched me a lot when he said that.”

Clemson will get a return visit at some point along the way, though he’s not sure when that will be.

“I’m going to get down on an official,” Butler said. “I’m not sure when, because I have games on Saturday, so we’re going to have to work something out. I’ll get back down there, though.”

A former Pittsburgh commitment, Butler isn’t going to rush into his second pledge.

“I want to take things slow. I definitely want to visit a couple of more schools, but Clemson is definitely a top school on my list,” he said. “I’ll go to a couple of more schools, to make sure. I’m just weighing out my options, not selling myself short. I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to make sure that I’m in the right position and just really take my time with it this time.”

Before wrapping up the summer, Butler will visit West Virginia on Friday.

As a junior, Butler had 27 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups.
