Florida play-maker likes Clemson

The pipeline from Florida to Clemson piques the interest in one of the state’s top play-makers from the 2017 class.

From C.J. Spiller to Sammy Watkins to Artavis Scott to Ray Ray McCloud and Deon Cain, the Tigers have had plenty of success mining some of the top play-makers out of the Sunshine State.

“I like how they have that connection with kids from Florida,” [autotag]Juwan Burgess[/autotag] recently said, during [autotag]an interview with TheClemsonInsider.

Burgess, a 6-1, 180-pound athlete from Tampa-Plant, recently listed Clemson among his favorite schools.

“Clemson has been showing me love ever since I was at Blake — around the offseason of my freshman year, so I was like, I’ll give Clemson a shot, because they’ve been with me through this process,” he said.

Florida, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Miami also made the list for Burgess, who’s ranked by 247 as the No. 9 athlete in the class of 2017.

Co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott recruits the Tampa area for Clemson.

“He said that they’re looking good this year. He wants me to come and visit, maybe I could come up there sometime during one of the games and check them out,” Burgess said.

As a sophomore at Blake High School, Burgess passed for 237 yards and rushed for 202 yards on 34 carries with a score. He also caught a pass for 42 yards.

In two seasons on the defensive side of the ball, Burgess totaled 66 tackles and sacks.

Burgess said Clemson is recruiting him as a wide receiver.

“I’m going to be looking at the graduation requirements for athletes, like what’s the graduation rate for the athletes,” he said.
