Not a great day for the defense

RALEIGH, N.C. — Clemson allowed just 135 yards rushing to a team that was averaging 215 yards a game on the ground coming. It allowed just 389 total yards to an NC State offense that was averaging more than 412.4 yards per game.

The defense seemingly did its job, right?

Not so much. The third-ranked Tigers (8-0, 5-0 ACC) gave up a season-high 41 points, the most since the season-opener at Georgia in 2014. The gave up runs of 41 and 66 yards and NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns.

Clemson won the game, 56-41, but defensive coordinator Brent Venables says the Tigers have some work to do before they host No. 17 Florida State next week for the ACC Atlantic Division Title.
