GREENVILLE — Clemson used a 25-4 run the start the second half two erase a two-point deficit at the break and cruise to a 76-56 victory at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville.
Led by Jaron Blossomgame and Sidy Djitte, the Tigers dominated the paint with 34 points in the second half and 42 for the game. They outscored the visiting Tigers 34-12 inside in the second half.
Clemson missed six layups in the first half, but in the second half it dominated the paint and the boards, making just about every shot it took in the paint in the final 20 minutes.
Blossomgame scored 22 points and had 9 rebounds, while Djitte added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Roper dropped in 14 points and five assists, while Donte Grantham had 11 points, 6 rebounds and four assists. Landry Nnoko finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season. Clemson will UMass in Nevada in the third round of the Men Who Speak Up Main Event tournament on Monday.
The Tigers trailed Texas Southern at the break, 33-31. Those Tigers connected on seven three-pointers, while shooting 41.2 percent from downtown. They also connected on 44 percent of their shots from the field. Most of those shots were wide open as Malcolm Riley and David Blanks were a combined 4 of 6 from behind the arc. They combined for 20 first half points.
Clemson struggled in the opening 20, connecting on just 37.0 percent from the field and missing its last four three-point attempts. Blossomgame, Roper and Grantham combined to score 24 of the Tigers’ first 31 points.
