The future of the running back position at Clemson looks awfully bright. The present ain’t too shabby either.

Over 12 games this season, Wayne Gallman has rushed for 1,332 yards on 243 carries, and he’s on the cusp of breaking Raymond Priester’s 19-year-old, single season record of 1,345 yards on 257 carries.

Priester first set the Clemson record in 1995 with 1,322 yards on 238 carries. He broke Terrance Flagler’s mark from 1986: 1,258 yards on just 192 carries.

A redshirt sophomore from Loganville, Ga., Gallman is 18th in the country in total yards and 22nd in yards per game. When Clemson’s playoff run comes to an end, The Wayne Train will have an important decision to make.

Whether he returns to Clemson for 2016 or takes off for the NFL, Clemson won’t be hurting for running backs, even with the departures of Zac Brooks and C.J. Davidson.

Tyshon Dye will be a redshirt junior next year. Adam Choice and C.J. Fuller will be redshirt sophomores.

After he graduates from Spartanburg High School in the spring, five-star Tavien Feaster will join them in Clemson.

Meanwhile, Tigers coaches continue to pound the pavement for the nation’s top 2017 running back prospects. At this point, it would appear that Clemson will take one running back in next year’s class, but attrition could dictate otherwise.

Here are a few running backs that TCI is keeping a close eye on:

A.J. Davis – Lakeland, Fla.
Clemson hosted Davis and his teammate, J.J. Robinson, in the fall for the Florida State game. The four-star duo first visited Clemson for several days during the summer, for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. Auburn, Florida and Florida State are among the top teams contending with Clemson.

Anthony McFarland – DeMatha – Hyattsville, Md.
Listed by Rivals as the No. 1 all-purpose running back, McFarland has a variety of options. He’s never visited Clemson, but the Tigers’ extended stay atop the polls could help vault them into more serious consideration.

Cordarrian Richardson – Trezevant – Memphis, Tenn.
One of the first stops by the Clemson staff during the current evaluation period was by Richardson’s school. The 5-11, 220-pound bruiser also has interest in Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Colin Wilson – Clay – Green Cove Springs, Fla.
Wilson has been two Clemson twice this year. First, for the Orange and White Spring game, and again this fall for Georgia Tech. Jeff Scott serves as Wilson’s primary recruiter to Clemson. Auburn and Florida are also firmly in the mix.
