Jeff Scott continued his swing through the Sunshine State, offering one of the state’s most explosive playmakers from the class of 2018.
Citra-North Marion running back/wide receiver Justin Watkins committed to LSU in April.
Watkins (6-0, 160) has several offers, including Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and UCLA. Duke and Florida State jumped into the mix last week, when the recruiting period began.
Scott dropped off the offer when he was at the school on Wednesday.
“He talked with my head coach and my head coach had let me know that he offered me,” Watkins said.
The offer wasn’t exactly a surprise.
“I was already kind of expecting it, because it’s one of the top options, for my school,” he said.
Watkins visited Clemson over the summer with several of his North Marion teammates, including 2017 offensive line target Blake Vinson.
“It was nice. I liked the hill…it’s a nice school. They’ve got a big campus too,” Watkins said.
He’s watched a lot of Clemson football this fall.
“They’re a great team,” Watkins said. “They know how to win. Last week, I watched the game versus North Carolina. I thought they were going to lose, but they bounced back, got the win.”
Clemson and LSU offered as an athlete.
As a sophomore, Watkins rushed 155 times for 1,350 yards and 15 touchdowns. He caught eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. On eight kick returns, he totaled 462 yards and scored four touchdowns.
