Top 2018 ATH likes Clemson

Near the top of South Carolina’s crop of 2018 prospects is Rock Hill-South Pointe athlete Derion Kendrick.

The 6-1, 180-pound wide receiver/safety already has several ACC and SEC offers, including Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and UNC.

In the fall, he took visits to Clemson, South Carolina, UNC and Kentucky.

Kendrick is on the Tigers’ board as an athlete, but Jeff Scott is pushing for him to play wide receiver.

“He’s a fun guy to be around,” Kendrick said.

He would know. Clemson had him on campus in the summer for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. There, he worked at wide receiver.

In the fall, Kendrick returned for the Notre Dame game. He’s impressed with the 13-0 run to the College Football Playoff that Clemson is on right now.

“I think it compares to us,” he said.

For now, it’s “too early” to distinguish favorites, but he did say that Clemson and Florida are sticking out.

A number of factors will be considered.

“The way the offense is set up and the way that I can fit into a position,” Kendrick said.
