FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — On Tuesday night, The Clemson Insider confirmed with multiple sources that Deon Cain, Ammon Lakip and Jay Jay McCullough have been suspended for the Orange Bowl.
All three were sent home for failed drug tests.
All three players attended the Orange Bowl media day event at Sun Life Stadium on Tuesday morning. However, they were sent home later that afternoon, before the Tigers’ practice at Nova Southeastern University.
Cain is tied for third on the team with 34 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns. The freshman wide receiver was suspended for an undisclosed reason earlier this season, and sat out the Miami game.
Lakip was arrested for DUI and possession of cocaine in June. This season, he’s made seven extra-points and handled kickoff duties since coming off his three-game suspension.
McCullough has played 98 snaps over 12 games, but does not have a catch.
School spokesmen advised TCI to ask Dabo Swinney about the suspension during Wednesday morning’s press conference.
