Virginia DE enjoys first visit

Three defensive ends made it to Clemson for Saturday’s Junior Day.

One of the three was four-star Jordan Williams, the No. 11 ranked weak-side defensive end (Rivals) in the class of 2017.

The 6-5, 245-pound prospect was one of a handful of top juniors to attend the event.

“I really liked that. It was definitely a great experience to be around those guys,” Williams told TheClemsonInsider. “Some of them I didn’t know until afterwards. There were only three defensive ends there and I looked them up.

“Seeing all the stars and all the offers they have, it was truly special.”

Williams also has offers from Marshall, Maryland, UNC, NC State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Temple, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

In the coming weeks and months, he plans to stop by Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and UNC.

Saturday’s trip to Clemson was his first experience in Tigertown.

“I was able to see all the facilities, see the atmosphere, see the campus, how campus life is,” Williams said. “Being able to meet with all the coaches was awesome.”

Plenty stood out.

“I liked the indoor facility and the locker room,” he said. “They’re supposed to be building the new football house, the team house. They said it’s supposed to be done close to January, so I’m looking forward to see the new team house.”

Williams spent plenty of time catching up with Brent Venables.

“Coach Venables, we talk all the time. We were just talking about how everything was going. How school is going for me. How track is going for me. We really talked about everything,” Williams said. “When coach (Dabo) Swinney talked to us and the parents, we really liked how real he was, his energy, how he was telling us stuff.”

Right now, there are no favorites. Williams wants to take more visits before he puts together a list.

As a junior, he had 35 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Williams also had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, one of which went for a touchdown.
