Eric Douglas wants to focus on bringing a fourth straight state championship to Mallard Creek High School.
That’s why the Charlotte, N.C. junior will make a decision within the next couple of months.
“I’m going to make a couple of more visits, to South Carolina and Florida. I plan to narrow it down from there, after I visit those two schools again,” Douglas told TheClemsonInsider, after he visited Clemson for Junior Day.
“I’m going to probably go to the spring game of the school that I’m going to commit to. I’m going to commit then or I might commit two weeks before that. I plan on shutting it down pretty early, so I can concentrate on my senior year and we can 4-peat.”
Douglas (6-5, 280) enjoyed his return to Clemson on Saturday.
“It was an honor to be chosen to go to this Junior Day, because it was invite-only,” he said. “First of all, them inviting me and showing me the love that they showed me when I was down there — all the coaches told me they loved me. That just resonated well with my parents and also myself. It was great to be down there. I should be down there again soon.”
He added, “The coaches, coach (Danny) Pearman, coach (Robbie) Caldwell and the GAs with the tight ends and offensive line, they were just talking to me and telling me how much they loved me and wanted me to, hopefully, give them a chance to play for them. Them showing me how they were being genuine with how they were talking to me. They told me, straight up, they want me to be at Clemson.”
South Carolina will have Douglas on campus later this month for Junior Day. He hasn’t set any plans for a trip to Florida.
After his last trip to Clemson for the Florida State game, the Tigers were out front.
“Coach Swinney, he said make sure you visit everyone before you make a decision. He told everybody that,” Douglas said.
Rivals lists Douglas a three-star and ranks him as the 24th best prospect in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2017.
