Among the visitors in Clemson earlier this month for Junior Day was one of the top 2019 quarterbacks in the country.
Xavier Malone, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound freshman out of Knoxville-Fulton, passed for 2,083 yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
TheClemsonInsider caught up with him over the weekend.
“Clemson was a nice university and I enjoyed every bit of it,” he said. “I like the new plans for the facility and the whole family environment as far as coaches, players and the fans.
“Also, I enjoyed seeing the spring practice and I am a fan of the flexibility with in the offensive system.”
Malone was impressed with what he saw from the Tigers during their practice in Memorial Stadium.
“They are always at a fast paced and very disciplined,” he said. “They know the goals they have and always pushing to reach those goals. I love the practice environment.”
Meeting with the Clemson coaching staff went well, too.
“It was great getting to know the guys and spending valuable time with coaches building relationships,” Malone said. “They are great coaches and Dabo (Swinney) is a great guy and the players love to be around him because of the type of guy he is.”
Tennessee will host him for a visit next month. Trips to Cincinnati, Louisville and Michigan State are also in the works.
Malone has yet to score any offers, but he already knows what to be on the lookout for while on going through the recruiting process.
“Some of the main factors would be education, as far as majors offered and what I’m looking to pursue and the offensive system that fits me best and helps me develop, also coaching staff stability,” he said.
